Simon Howard, Business Operations Director, celebrates 23 years at Scitech-EKIUM

This month marks 23 years since Simon Howard joined Scitech-EKIUM as CAD Manager. In that time, he has played a central role in shaping the company’s technical and operational infrastructure, progressing through IT and quality management to his current position as Business Operations Director.

When Simon joined Scitech in 2003, CAD was a specialist and critical function in the company’s pharmaceutical and life sciences project work. He built the CAD department from scratch, developing its capability in Revit, AutoCAD MEP and 3D Studio Max to support project teams across multiple engineering disciplines. His technical output spanned a wide range of high-profile facilities: a new FDG production facility incorporating a cyclotron and hot cells for GE Healthcare at Amersham, a two-phase renovation at Lonza Biologics in Slough incorporating a new fermenter hall and virus negative suite, a fully coordinated 3D model for Covance Laboratories in Harrogate, and a new pharmaceutical production facility for Algeta ASA in Oslo. Across these projects and many others, Simon acted as Lead CAD, coordinating architectural, mechanical and electrical disciplines and producing fully rendered 3D visualisations commissioned directly by clients.

Over the years, Simon’s role expanded well beyond the drawing office. He took on day-to-day management of the company’s IT infrastructure, supporting office and site-based staff across the UK and the Antwerp office, before progressing into broader quality and operations management. As Business Operations Director, his current responsibilities focus on the operational standards and systems that allow the business to deliver projects reliably.

Simon says “When I joined in 2003, I never imagined the journey I have been on within Scitech, or how much I’d grow alongside it. What started with running the CAD department turned into a career spanning IT, quality and now business operations, and every step taught me something new. Becoming part of Ekium has opened up a genuinely different scale of opportunity. We’re combining decades of life sciences expertise with the reach of a much larger engineering group, and I’m as excited about what’s ahead now as I was on my first day. The best of this journey is still to come.”

Congratulations Simon on 23 years – and thank you for your continued contribution to Scitech-EKIUM and our clients.
