Business Ethics

We are committed to conducting our business with the highest ethical standards. This means making decisions and acting in a way that is fair, transparent and respectful to everyone; including colleagues, clients, suppliers and the community at large.

The fundamental principles underlying our ethical standards are:

  • Integrity: Employees are expected to act with honesty and integrity in all business dealings. This includes ensuring that all communications, whether verbal, written or electronic are truthful and accurate.
  • Respect: All employees must treat all stakeholders with dignity and respect. This includes fostering an inclusive work environment, valuing diverse perspectives and addressing others in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Fair Treatment: All business decisions should be made objectively, without favouritism or bias. This includes avoiding conflicts of interest and disclosing any potential conflicts to a senior manager or Director.
  • Transparency: Employees must be clear and open in communication with all stakeholders. Employees should ensure that their actions are transparent and that they can be clearly explained and justified if questioned.
  • Compliance: Compliance with laws and regulations is non-negotiable. Employees must adhere to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements in their roles.

Scitech-EKIUM’s employees are expected to follow the company’s code of conduct policy, which sets out its expectations of all employees and how everyone is expected to behave whilst working for the company. The policy covers expected behaviours relating to bribery and corruption, regulatory and legal compliance, reporting of encountered or suspected illegal activities and respect for others.

Supply Chain

Scitech-EKIUM expects its suppliers to follow Scitech-EKIUM’s Code of Conduct, which sets standards for our supply chain to follow, observing good sustainability practices and regulatory compliance.
Scitech-EKIUM will identify, assess and use where practicable suppliers and subcontractors local to our construction sites to provide the required goods and services for the duration of the project. This brings a direct economic benefit to areas surrounding our projects. Scitech-EKIUM also encourages local companies to expand their business and capabilities to develop their in-house skill base to provide local service to support Scitech-EKIUM and other partners. In turn, this support will enable Scitech-EKIUM to further develop its business activities within those areas.

With this approach Scitech-EKIUM reduces the travel time and resources used while making local areas self-sufficient in their operations, enabling further economic growth and development to be sustained.

Quality and Environmental Management Systems

We regularly review and audit our processes, policies, procedures and certifications and look for opportunities to strengthen these. We insist in sector-leading Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Performance and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

We have clear board-level responsibilities in place and regular, formalised forums for business management, including monthly management and board level meetings which produce and review monthly financial reports and KPIs.

We commit to measuring our impacts through Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality Performance data, employee engagement surveys, customer satisfaction feedback and our financial performance.

Scitech-EKIUM’s Quality and Environmental Management Systems are independently audited and accredited to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Scitech-EKIUM’s sustainability and environmental performance has been assessed and accredited through Ecovadis (Bronze, 80th percentile) and CDP (SME-B).

Our IT systems are certified as meeting the requirements of the Cyber Essentials scheme.

Scitech-EKIUM’s construction sites are planned and operated to comply with all appropriate legislation, including the development and implementation of a location specific waste management plan. This plan ensures that waste materials are appropriately and responsibly handled, considering their re-use and recycling through to disposing of non-recyclable and any hazardous materials through licensed waste carriers and their facilities.

We operate all our sites responsibly, with a strong ethos of health, safety and environmental protection. All tasks on site are reviewed by our site manager to ensure that they are carried out in ways that promote health and safety while affording appropriate protection to the local environment.

In addition, we assess our subcontractors’ environmental accreditations and performance as part of our vendor prequalification process. Scitech-EKIUM expects and supports their subcontractors to correctly manage their environmental responsibilities – providing site inductions and task briefings that cover and address environmental concerns, risks and protection. Our construction management team carry out daily and task specific briefs to subcontractors on site, through scheduled and toolbox talks.

Scitech-EKIUM’s management team also implement a regime of regular and random inspections of the works being carried out, to ensure compliance with Scitech-EKIUM’s and regulatory standards; that work is being undertaken correctly according to the documented and agreed methods, to protect health, safety and the environment.
