Environmental Impact

We monitor our Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with the Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SERC) regulations and guidance to develop near-term targets following the SBTi SME Target Validation Route.

We have held the ISO14001 standard for Environmental Management Systems since November 2023. We were also recently awarded Ecovadis Bronze and CDP “SME-B” accreditations for our sustainability.

We continue to monitor our greenhouse gas emissions, waste and energy use and are actively working toward our Net Zero target by 2040.

To date we have:

  • Reduced our Scope 1 Emissions to almost zero.
  • Scope 2 Emissions have been zero at our Godalming offices since August 2024.
  • We are developing methods to measure and monitor contributions to our Scope 3 emissions reduction.
  • We are working with our partners to consider reductions for Scope 3.
  • We will help enable carbon footprint reductions for our customers using our design solutions and services.
  • We are improving resource efficiency and sustainable consumption via our building designs through to construction management.

Sustainability

Throughout its operations Scitech-EKIUM promotes the use of remote meetings, to reduce the requirement for in-person meetings with associated travel resources and cost. Where in-person meetings and site visits are required, Scitech-EKIUM promotes the use of public transport and car sharing to minimise the environmental impact. The need for further visits is reduced by Scitech-EKIUM’s teams’ use of 360° digital cameras to capture visual details of existing arrangements for later reference and planning.

We encourage clients to undertake point cloud surveys of their facilities, if an up- to-date model is not already available. The outputs from such surveys are used as the basis of models to aid the planning and execution of projects’ design and installation, from calculation of whole life and embodied carbon, advice on the selection of sustainable materials, through to the coordination and layout of the final installation – reducing construction time on site and promoting sustainability within the project.

The model derived from these surveys can be used to plan and document the maintenance requirements of the onsite plant, removing the need for multiple paper copies of documentation and their associated storage space.

Scitech-EKIUM is investing funds to develop sustainability at its locations and in its operations. These investments include an Electric Vehicle (EV) scheme, which provides EV charging infrastructure, “at cost” charging for employees and free charging for visiting clients – helping to reduce emissions from business travel. Additional investments include purchasing thermal modelling WLCA software and training and sourcing goods and services from sustainable providers.

Scitech-EKIUM continues to develop in-house capacity and learning on ESG matters, including ISO14001 EMS accreditation and maintenance, providing employees with information on sustainability and ED&I matters, while requesting feedback and suggestions to further improve the environment and experiences of working at Scitech-EKIUM.

Circular Economy in Action

Following our company rebrand, we partnered with STAYSAFE PPE Ltd to ensure our redundant PPE avoided landfill and contributed to a circular economy. Viable items are de-branded and donated to charities for reuse or resale, while others are creatively repurposed – such as hi-vis jackets transformed into dog coats.

Unusable PPE is processed into pipe liners, insulation materials and roof garden membranes, and by mid-2026, poly-cotton garments will be recycled into yarn through STAYSAFE’s collaboration with Stuff for Life, achieving full circularity.

This approach reduces waste, avoids unnecessary disposal costs and supports our ESG goals by conserving resources, cutting emissions and creating positive social impact.
