My Work Experience Week at Scitech-EKIUM
By Lily Crossland
Throughout the course of my week, I gained an insight into the ever-expanding world of pharmaceuticals and the precise projects carried out here at Scitech-EKIUM.
The in-depth project given to me focused on the manufacturing of monoclonal antibodies, where I discussed a wide range of topics from biologics to bioreactors, in which I had a week to research, create and present a 15-20-minute presentation with questions to some of my colleagues. This allowed me to practise giving speeches to groups and become more comfortable with presenting in a work environment.
Being immersed in a multi-discipline workplace massively allowed me to expand my knowledge on the variety of sectors within the design and build consultancy firm, and having talks throughout the week on disciplines such as process, mechanical and electrical engineering, radiopharmaceuticals, CAD, building services and marketing really widened my skills and knowledge that I couldn’t pick up at college. I was also allowed to sit in on some client meetings, which allowed me first-hand experience of client negotiations.
Being surrounded by such skilled people was beneficial to me in many ways, allowing me to ask questions and gain an insight into the realities of work, with many people giving me useful advice for my future career paths.
A highlight for me was the friendly community here, seeing as everyone had gone out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and taking time to share their experiences/work with me so I could get the most out of my week as possible. I can definitely apply some of these skills I learned to future careers.
Overall, I would say my work experience week was challenging but with the massive help of the welcoming people at Scitech-EKIUM, I was able to greatly enjoy my time here.
If you want some highly beneficial experience, I would absolutely recommend Scitech-EKIUM’s work experience week programme.
